Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of sweet Italian sausage
  • 3.4 pounds of ground chicken
  • ½ cup onion, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 28 ounces of tomatoes, crushed
  • 6 ounces of tomato paste
  • 6.5 ounces of canned tomato sauce
  • ½ cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons dried basil leaves
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ teaspoon of salt, divided
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces of ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • ¾ cup parmesan cheese, grated

Method to Prepare:

  • In an oven, cook sausage, chicken, onion, and garlic over medium heat until all ingredients are well browned.
  • Now, add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water and season it with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons of parsley.
  • Simmer and cover it for about 1 ½ hours. Do not forget to stir occasionally.
  • Now, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to boil and cook lasagna noodles in it for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Drain and rinse noodles with cold water and add ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1.2 teaspoon salt.
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and assemble the ingredients.
  • To assemble, spread 1 ½ cups of meat sauce in the bottom of an oven tray and arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over the meat sauce.
  • Spread one-half of the ricotta cheese mixture and top it up with a third of the mozzarella cheese slices spoon 1 ½ cups of meat sauce and drizzle parmesan cheese all over it.
  • Repeat all the layers again, top it up with the remaining mozzarella and parmesan, and cover it with the foil.
  • Bake it in a preheated oven for about 25 minutes and remove the foil. Bake it for another 25 minutes, uncovered.
  • Cool for 15 minutes before serving, and enjoy your lasagna with your family and friends!
