You can only learn this by practicing. You will determine the amount of Water you will need depending on the kind of Rice you use.
The two methods that are widely used – the pressure cooker method and the saucepan method. Both of these methods will yield different textures of Rice.
If you are a fan of soft and sticky Rice, then a pressure cooker quickly accomplishes this goal. If you are looking at a grainy texture, then the saucepan method is a better method.

Method to Prepare:
For Pressure Cooker:
- Rinse the rice well under running water.
- Now, place one cup of washed rice and two cups of water in the cooker’s pan.
- Keep the weight on, cover the pressure cooker.
- Cook the rice in the pressure cooker on a medium-high flame, and after the first whistle, turn the flame to low. Then, simmer the Rice for another 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, turn the flame off and let the pressure release naturally.
- Rice usually takes a longer time to cook, so wait for the pressure to release completely and then open the cooker.
- Pair it with your choice of gravy or dal, and enjoy!
For Saucepan Method:
- Use running water to rinse the rice and let it soak in water for about 15 minutes.
- Take a heavy-bottomed saucepan that has a tight-fitting lid. Pour 2 cups of water and add washed rice and salt.
- Now, bring the mixture to a boil over a high flame.
- As the water begins to boil, turn the flame to low, cover the pan with a lid and let the Rice simmer for 15 minutes until all the water is absorbed.
- Now, turn off the flame and let it rest covered for another 12 minutes.
- Before serving, fluff the rice with the help of a fork.
- You will need to test your ration based on several things, such as the temperature, the pot you use, and rice quality.
- Drizzle some lemon juice as it will keep the rice grains from getting soggy.
- You can add more flavors to your Rice by using stock-vegetable or chicken stock instead of water.
- You can also season Rice with a pinch of salt.
- If you are using a saucepan, then add a teaspoon of oil. It will help Rice not stick to the bottom of the pan and keep Rice moist if you store it for many days.
- Once the Rice is cooked, it’ll double its quantity. Use a saucepan or pot big enough to hold that quantity of Rice.
- DO NOT stir Rice in between. Do not open the lid in-between during cooking. Leave it untouched.
- Use a pan with a glass lid if you want to keep a watch on the Rice.
- It’s crucial to let cooked rice rest for about 5 to 10 minutes before opening the lid and stirring. This will help Rice absorb all moisture and cook to a soft texture.
