How to Make Mirchi Bhajiya? 

Here, mirchi is slitted and then stuffed with a tangy spice mix first. Coat and bathe these stuffed mirchis into besan batter, which is infused with various spices and herbs.

Then, fry them until golden brown and serve them with tamarind or mint chutney. 

The combination of stuffed tender potatoes and the crispiness of fried green chili bhajiya is truly a taste bud tantalizing dish.

While making bhajiya, ensure that you remove the seeds and pith from the chili. If not removed, the chilis can taste pungent.

Ingredients 

For besan batter:

  • 1 cup besan /gram flour
  • ¼ cup rice flour/chawal ka atta
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder/lal mirch powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder/haldi
  • pinch of asafoetida/hing
  • salt to taste
  • ¼ cup water 
  • pinch of baking soda

For stuffing:

  • 2 potatoes (boiled and peeled)
  • 1 green chili/hari mirch (finely chopped)
  • 1-inch ginger (grated)
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • ½ medium sized onion (finely chopped)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder/haldi
  • salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder/lal mirch powder
  • ½ tsp jeera/cumin seeds
  • pinch of hing/asafoetida
  • ½ tsp amchur powder/dry mango powder

Other ingredients:

  • Four large chili/green bullhorn chili/Bhavnagari mirchi 
  • oil for deep frying

Method to Prepare 

Besan batter recipe:

  • Firstly, take a bowl
    • Add besan, rice flour, chili powder, haldi, hing, and salt.
    • Mix well.
    • Add water to make a smooth batter.
    • Then, add a pinch of baking soda and mix gently

Stuffing recipe:

  • Take another bowl.
    • Add mashed potatoes, green chilies, ginger, coriander leaves, and onion.
    • Then, sprinkle haldi, red chili powder, jeera, amchur, salt, and hing.
    • Mix well.

Mirchi stuffing recipe:

  • Firstly, slit green chili at the center and remove the seeds.
    • Stuff the potato stuffing into the chili.
    • Dip the stuffed mirchi into the besan batter and coat well.
    • Deep fry to a golden brown.
    • Mirchi Bhajiya is ready.
