Ingredients

  • One tablespoon of olive oil
  • Two onions finely chopped
  • Four cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 pounds (1 kg) of lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) red wine 
  • 2 x 28-ounce cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup (250 ml) beef stock
  • Six tablespoons of tomato paste
  • One large carrot chopped
  • One tablespoon of stock powder
  • 2-3 teaspoons salt adjust to your tastes
  • Two teaspoons of dried oregano 
  • Two teaspoons of dried basil 
  • One teaspoon sugar
  • Cracked pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley
  • 17 ounces (500 g) dry pasta (spaghetti)

Method to Prepare 

  • Take a large skillet and heat olive oil in it over medium-high flame. Add onion and sauté them until they are tender. 
  • Now, add the garlic and cook them both for about 30 seconds until they are fragrant. 
  • Break apart the brown beef with a wooden spoon and cook it for about 3 minutes, until it is brown. 
  • Then, transfer it to a slow-cooker bowl. 
  • Return the skillet to the stove and pour in the wine to get rid of the bits of the fried meat from the pan. Bring it to a gentle simmer and transfer it to the slow cooker bowl. 
  • Add crushed tomatoes, beef stock, tomato paste, carrots, stock powder, salt, crushed oregano, basil, sugar, and pepper to the slow cooker bowl. 
  • Cover it and cook it on a low flame for 6 to 7 hours. You can cook it on a high flame for about 3 to 4 hours. 
  • In the last 15 minutes of cooking time, boil pasta as per instructions given on the packet in saltwater. 
  • Once they are cooked, drain them. Do not throw the pasta water—instead, reserve about ½ cup of pasta water to use later. 
  • Now, pour the pasta water into the pasta along with 2 cups of bolognese sauce. 
  • Simmer it until the sauce is thick enough to coat the pasta. 
  • Serve it hot by topping it with parmesan and chopped parsley.
