- Prep time: 30-45 minutes
- Cooking time: 5 days 14 hours
- Servings: 8
- 2 cups of warm water
- 2 and a half teaspoon of active dry yeast or we can say 1 packet
- 3 and a half cups of flour
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 4 cups of flour
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 and a half cups of water
- 1 cup of starter
Method to Prepare
- Take a large bowl and add water and yeast, mix the yeast properly, and keep it aside for a few minutes.
- After a few minutes, add flour and sugar in a bowl of yeast and mix all ingredients well until everything is combined evenly.
- Now, take a clear wrap and cover the bowl with it, but make sure that a bowl should not be sealed too tightly. The next step is to keep this bowl at room temperature for 5 days and don’t forget to stir the mixture every 12 hours. You will notice that the starter is rising and shrinking every day. When you see bubbles, it indicates that yeast is being activated.
- One day 5, you will prepare the bread dough. For this, take a bowl and add flour, salt, water, and starter as stated in the ingredients section. If you are kneading the dough with the help of a machine, do it for 8-10 minutes. Or, if you are kneading it using your hands, you have to knead it for at least 18-20 minutes until it is sticky and not sticking to your hands.

You just have to nourish it once in a week by simply adding one teaspoon of sugar in it. When you notice that your starter is getting low, you can refill it by adding 1 cup of flour, half a cup of water, and mix well in the already prepared starter and keep it in the refrigerator. When you plan to prepare the dough for the bread, simply get the starter mixture out of the refrigerator and leave it overnight at room temperature.
- Get back to the kneaded dough. Take a large bowl and sprinkle some flour on its surface and place the kneaded dough over it and cover a bowl with a towel. Let this dough rise for 12 hours.
- Now, take a floured board or a flat surface and place the risen dough on it and knead it again for a few minutes.
