What is Onion Bhajiya? 

Bhajiya or pakoda is a deep-fried snack from the Indian subcontinent. Firstly, the main ingredients i.e. onions, spices, and herbs, are mixed.

Then, besan (gram flour) and rice flour are sprinkled and combined well. Now, the water will be added little by little. This will give kanda bhaji its famous crispy and crunchy texture.

Ingredients 

  • Four onions, finely sliced
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped 
  • A handful of coriander leaves 
  • 1/2 tsp dhania/coriander powder 
  • 1/2 tsp lal mirch/red chili powder 
  • 1/4 tsp haldi/turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp jeera/cumin powder 
  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala 
  • 1/4 cup rice flour 
  • 1 cup besan/gram flour
  • 1/4 cup water 
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ajwain/ caraway seeds 
  • Oil for frying

For Serving

  • Green chutney

Method to Prepare 

  • Firstly, take a bowl.
    • Then, add chopped onions, chili, and coriander leaves.
    • Sprinkle dhaniya powder, lal mirch powder, haldi, jeera powder, and chaat masala.
    • Then, add rice flour and besan to the bowl.
    • Add lightly crushed ajwain and salt as per your taste.
  • Gradually, add water little by little.
    • Mix until combined.
  • Heat oil in a deep skillet.
    • Once the oil is hot, drop the onion paste.
    • Fry the bhajiya until crispy and golden.
  • Serve warm, and enjoy!
