Effortless Idli Recipe You Must Not Miss!
If you follow the traditional idli batter recipe, you will need to use rice and urad dal combinations in a 2:1 ratio. If you want your Idli to be fluffy and soft, you need to emphasize the fermentation process.
Ensure your batter gets at least around 8 to 9 hours of resting time for fermentation. Making the batter a day before and letting it rest overnight will be best for you. If you live in a humid place, then overnight fermentation is sufficient. - Three ¾ cup basmati rice
- ¾ tablespoon fenugreek seeds
- ⅓ cup and two ¼ tablespoon sesame oil
- Two ¼ cup urad dal

Method to Prepare
- First, wash rice and urad dal separately until the water runs clear. Then, add fenugreek seeds to the rice.
- Let it soak in the water for at least 4 to 6 hours. Soak urad dal for the same time as well.
- Drain all the water from the dal and grind to make a paste. Add water if needed.
- Now, make a coarse paste by grinding rice. Then, mix rice and dal paste in a large bowl to make the idli batter. Keep the batter thick.
- Now, you will need the batter to be well fermented. This is the key to soft and fluffy idlis.
- Choose a place that is warm in order for better fermentation.
- Once the batter has risen, add salt and give it a good mix.
- Meanwhile, grease the idli stand with oil, take a ladleful of batter, and pour it into the idli mold.
- Heat the idli steamer by adding ½ cup of water, letting it boil.
- Once water is cooked enough, slide the Idli stand inside it and shut the lid.
- Let idli steam for 8 to 10 minutes, and then switch off the flame.
- If you are using a cooker, remove the vent and let it steam for 10 minutes. Then switch off the gas.
- In both methods, make sure you wait for the steam to get released before taking out the idli stand.
- Wait for at least 5 minutes, then scoop the idlis out with a sharp knife.
