Garlic Naan Recipe

  • 3 cups + 3-4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • Sugar 1 tablespoon
  • ½ cup lukewarm milk
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 large garlic cloves
  • Nigella seeds, optional

For Garlic Butter:

  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons of cilantro, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic, minced
Garlic Naan

Method to Prepare:

  • Take a bowl and whisk together 3 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt and set it aside for some time.
  • Now, add lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast in the steel bowl of your mixer and let it blossom for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Once you see the bubbly and foamy texture on the top, it means your yeast is active; hence add to it the lukewarm milk, yogurt, and oil.
  • Now, it is time to add the flour mixture and mix until it is combined. Don’t forget to add the garlic to give it a refreshing flavor!
  • Now, add the remaining all-purpose flour and make the dough sticky; remember don’t make it too sticky or too hard, just enough!
  • Message the dough with your hands for 1 to 2 minutes until the dough is smooth. 
  • Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl and cover it with a damp kitchen towel as the yeast will do its magic and the dough will be fluffy and rise double than before! It will take almost 90 minutes to get the perfect texture for your dough.
  • Use this time and prepare your garlic butter.
  • Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter; add minced garlic and chopped cilantro to it and get it ready to brush it on your delicious naans!
  • Divide your dough into 8 equal parts and add flour to your rolling surface to avoid sticking. Show your skills and roll your dough into a perfect round or oval shape!
  • Drip your finger in water and sprinkle some nigella seed on top of your naan to make it look beautiful and delicious!
  • Brush your naan with the garlic butter you prepared while cooking.
